Keywords are search terms that a potential client enters into the search engine for finding items of interest and topics your site deal in. You need to optimize your website with these relevant keywords to get the best possible placement in the search engine result pages.

Keywords should be used effectively by you within your site, so that when the search engine indexes your site, your keywords are picked up. The keyword or the key phrase should be ideally used in the title tag of your page. Try not to repeat the keyword in your title phrase and make sure the title make sense.

Keywords should also be used in the Meta tags as well. Place relevant keywords and phrases in your Meta tag. Use of keyword phrases instead of keywords is generally helpful as single keywords can be very competitive. It may be helpful to add common misspellings of a word as well as both the singular and plural forms of the word.

In the Meta tag description, use your keywords and key phrases and do not repeat them more than two times. The description should not exceed more than twenty five words.

Content of the site should also contain your keywords and key phrases. Use the first 250 words of your content have a five to seven percent density of your keyword. Do not increase the density as that is considered spamming by the engines. Do not be repetitive and always make sure your content makes sense.
